Why Jersey milk
Small cows, golden milk.
Of all dairy breeds, the little brown Jersey gives milk unlike any other — noticeably richer than store milk, with a golden cream line that rises to the top of every jar. It's the milk old-timers remember, and the reason we never considered another breed.
High butterfat
Jersey milk is naturally rich in butterfat — creamy in coffee, and it skims beautifully for butter and whipped cream.
More protein
Higher protein content than most breeds, which makes it a favorite for yogurt, kefir, and home cheesemaking.
Rich flavor
Sweet, full, and golden-hued — raw Jersey milk tastes the way milk did before it was standardized and shipped.
Gentle grazers
Jerseys are small, docile, and efficient on pasture — a good fit for a family farm and easy on the land.
Our herd & how we feed
Healthy cows come first.
Good milk starts long before the milking parlor. Our cows are fed a dairy grain mix to maintain health and body condition, along with pasture in the growing season and quality dry hay as needed through the Indiana winter.
We keep the herd small enough to know every cow by name and temperament. That daily attention — clean bedding, fresh water, careful milking — is what lets us stand behind every gallon that leaves the farm.
What the cows eat
A balanced dairy grain mix for condition and energy, green pasture when it's growing, and dry hay when it isn't. Nothing complicated — just what keeps a dairy cow thriving.
From your weekly gallon
One gallon, a whole week of good food.
Herdshare families rarely stop at drinking their milk. With a true cream line, every gallon is a small dairy in itself — here's what our members love to make.
Butter & whipped cream
Skim the golden cream off the top, shake or churn, and you have real Jersey butter — deeper in color and flavor than anything at the store.
Yogurt & kefir
The extra protein in Jersey milk sets thick, spoonable yogurt without any thickeners. A quart of milk and a spoonful of culture is all it takes.
Farmhouse cheese
From quick paneer and mozzarella to aged farmhouse rounds — cheesemakers seek out Jersey milk for its yield and richness.
Life on the farm
Slow mornings, honest work.
Common questions
Herdshare, plainly explained.
What exactly is a herdshare?
A herdshare (or cow share) is a boarding arrangement. You buy a share of the dairy herd, making you a part-owner, and pay the farm to board, feed, and milk the cows. Because the milk already belongs to you as an owner, you can take home your portion — one gallon per week per share — fresh and raw.
Why do I need to sign a contract?
The signed cow share contract is what makes the arrangement work: it documents your ownership in the herd and our responsibility to care for the cows and provide your weekly gallon. We'll walk you through it before you sign — it's short and written in plain language.
How do I get my milk each week?
Milk is picked up at the farm at 5141 N 1125 E, Hartsville, during posted farm hours. Bring a cooler in warm weather, keep your milk refrigerated, and it will stay fresh and sweet.
What does a share cost?
Call or email us for current share pricing and availability — spots in the herdshare depend on how many cows are milking. We're happy to answer questions before you commit to anything.
Can I visit the farm before joining?
Absolutely — we'd rather you did. Come by during farm hours or call ahead to arrange a visit, meet the Jerseys, and see how the milking is done. Good milk should come from a farm you've stood on.
